Two of Kodaikanal's best-loved outings are about 2 km from Hyderspark Kodaikanal, and they pair nicely in a single morning: a walk along the edge of the hills, then an hour among the flower beds by the lake.
Coaker's Walk
Coaker's Walk is a paved path of about a kilometre that runs along the edge of a steep slope. It is named after Lieutenant Coaker of the Royal Engineers, who laid it out in 1872. On a clear day the views reach across the plains far below; on a misty one, clouds drift past at eye level.
Bryant Park
Bryant Park is a botanical garden beside Kodaikanal Lake, laid out in 1908 by H. D. Bryant, a forest officer from Madurai. It is known for its flower beds, glasshouse and old trees, and hosts a flower show during the summer season.
Plan your visit
- Visit Coaker's Walk early in the morning, before the mist rolls in, for the clearest views.
- Both are open during the day and charge a small entry fee.
- Allow about an hour for each.
